AW-Recordings is proud to present the first label compilation available on double vinyl and on CD. Viewpoints features new material by artists all around the globe with the same kind of vision in mind. Deepness, soul and timelessness expressed in different ways of electronic music. The compilation features some new talents alongside some well known producers. Louis Haiman: Based in St. Louis he is running his label fwdthought featuring artists such as Tony Drake and Chris Schubert. He is best known for his contributions to Transmat. "Inner Technology" is a deep swirling filtered electro tune. CRC: aka Harrison Fnord aka Michael Diekmann. Coming from Finland his sound is best described as the northern version of the good old days of Detroit and old Plus 8 records. He has released on several labels such as Statik Entertainment or Curle and is definitely one to watch in the future. Alex Leon: Not only doing the complete graphics for AW, Alex also does some music of his own. Being very shy and not willing to let the public hear his creations it's great to present you one of his deep ambient pieces. The perfect soundtrack for a rainy nightdrive. Deixis: A mysterious new artist from the UK. This CD only bonus track introduces Deixis to the label rooster. A complete 12" will follow later this year. The stuff can be best described as a mixture of old B12, Black Dog and Convextion or Maurizio material. CD only bonus track! Stephen Brown: Stephen doesn't really need an introduction. He has released superb material on Djax Up Beats, Transmat and Subject Detroit to name a few. He created his own unique sound through the 90's until now and we are happy to have him on the compilation. Time Light Curve: This is a new project of Gerard Hanson aka Convextion / E.R.P. Expect some machine funk coming directly from Texas. Myon: First ever release by this fresh artist from germany. Pure analogue electronic techno with a clear influence by Stasis or As One for example. Expect a lot of melodic soul on this CD only bonus track. Strand: the Detroit based trio is known from releases on Delsin and Shake's Frictional label. "Soleil" is wonderful deep stringladden detroit techno with a beautiful melodic piano line. Licensed from Harbonder, Strand's imprint. Ovatow: Ovatow prefers to stay unknown. He already released on Frantic Flowers and Syncom Data's SD label. He continues his unique dub influenced style with "Visitation_v4" in a very funky electro way. Ovatow breaks the musical barriers of the so called dub techno genre. East Island: One of the famous dutch duo's from the good old days. They had several releases on legendary Dutch label Eevo Lute and on Down Low Music together with The Moderator. "The master of Servir" is an emotional deep techno masterpiece that takes your mind onto a journey to far away galaxies. CD bonus only! XDB: We welcome Kosta Athanassiadis to the label. He is one of the very few German producers creating his own unique sound nowadays and his label Metrolux is hot! Watch out for this talented man and listen to "c.o.n." to experience some good quality techno music. Obsolete Music Technology: aka Steven Tang, living in Chicago and running his imprint Emphasis for a long time. We think he should be much more famous and hopefully "Evening Star" will help to raise the attention. His style is a mixture of Detroit and Chicago sound with a melancholic and deep sense for beautiful melodies. Derek Carr: Hailing from Ireland, Derek closes the album with one of his most emotional and deepest tracks. "Telemetry" is pure electronic soul. Check out his debut album "Science & Soul" on Nice & Nasty which was released in 2007. VIEWPOINTS CHAPTER ONE is the first compilation for AW Recordings label and it will be released on March/April 2008 as double LP/CD. If you aren't a vinyl fetishist I suggest you to puchase the CD edition, because it contains three exclusive tracks by Deixis, Myon (I liked his "Odissey red", a track which is capable to create a good mixture of melodic ambient and minimal trance) and East Island ("The master of servir" is a nice particular ambient track based on pads and light orchestrations with a obsessive rhythm). The 13 tracks of the CD deal with the different flavors of dilated techno and various minimalism focusing their ambience on rhythmical stops and go. A good example of what this is Ovatow's "Visitation_v4": here the track has different moments where rhythm and synth melodies "switch position" (if on some moments a basic rhythm is enhanced by synth layers forming an ideal web of sounds on some others rhythm takes its "revenge" while the other sound are rarefied). Some tracks sound danceable and kinda "nervous", like the opening Louis Haiman's "Inner technology" or Obsolete Music Technology's "Evening star" while others, like the following by Derek Carr, are more dreamy sounding (and some of them are dreaming nightmares like Alex Leon's "Instant grey"). You can check the sound excerpts of each track on the label's website. Review by: Maurizio Pustianaz |
